Featured Member/Ambassador for Month – Efrat Livny! // Featured Member // News // May 31 2016

Introduction:
The Doyenne Group, in our effort to raise awareness and effectiveness of female entrepreneurs in the Madison area, we’ve created a monthly spotlight on a local rising star. This month, come along with us in getting to know Efrat Livny and her local business contributions.

Doyenne Group (DG):
What business do you own/work for?

Efrat: Threshold: A Place for Community, Creativity and Well-Being

DG: What is your background? What got you to where you are now?

Efrat: I have had a very multifaceted educational and professional path that includes corporate and academic employment, and two decades as an independent artist, bodyworker and healing guide. I am a blend of middle east and Midwest and love exploring and inventing. I believe in investing in the world and making it a better place by investing in and working with my community.

DG: What made you decide to start your business?

Efrat: The creation of Threshold was an unexpected and welcome turn of events after loosing my work space in 2014. On looking for a new space I came upon the building on Atwood Ave. and found myself moving forward without a clear plan. It seems that Threshold has and is creating it’s own path which arises from intuition, conversations and lots of experimentation.

DG: What is your biggest accomplishment so far in life and why?

Efrat: I am not sure how to answer this question, except to say that having over 6 decades of life that is full and rich is an amazing accomplishment. At this time Threshold is an important part of my life and my sense of meaning, vitality, creativity and legacy.

DG: What is your biggest accomplishment in your business and why?

Efrat: My greatest accomplishment is that Threshold while still in its infancy, is showing clear signs of being a place where community gathers, where people connect to themselves and to others, and where there is exploration and collaboration in an atmosphere of openess and support.

DG: What is the biggest obstacle that you have face while in business? What is the biggest fear that you have for your business?

Efrat: My biggest obstacle to date is having had to do pretty much everything at Threshold by myself for close to a year. I have had to put aside my own work and my travel and have definitely have had to accelerate and intensify my life pace in ways that are, sometimes, challenging.

Financially Threshold is close to covering the rent. I need to make sure that it can do that fully and reliably as well as costs of staff which I am in the process of hiring.

DG: If you could give one quote to live by, what would it be?

Efrat: Thank you. I am sorry. Please forgive me. I love you.

DG: What words of advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Efrat: Be inspired. Be brave. Be dedicated. Be gracious.

DG:  What does Madison need to encourage entrepreneurs to stay and grow their businesses?

Efrat: Sources of funding for projects and for resource development similar to those that not for profits have access to.
