enne Group (DG): What business do you own?

Karen: Grasshopper Goods

DG: What is your background? What got you to where you are now?

I am a tenured associate professor at National-Louis University and hold an Educational Doctorate in instructional leadership. Currently, I teach in the Teaching Learning and Assessment graduate program.

In addition to my role as an associate professor, I am also the President of the International Visual Literacy Association. As a self-described visual learner, I am extremely dedicated to this work and very passionate about the impact of images and art in learning and understanding.

My passion for visual imagery and art gives a glimpse into the meaning behind my business, Grasshopper Goods.

DG: What made you decide to start your business?

My passion for visual imagery, connectedness with people and artists. A response to the need to touch and feel in a fast paced high tech world. A dream of starting my own business.

DG: What is your biggest accomplishment in your business and why?

Getting my WWBIC loan & building the truck and thinking completely out of the box…literally!

DG: If you could give one quote to live by, what would it be?

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”
Nelson Mandela

DG: What are three things that people may not know about you?

I grew up on a farmette in the Chicago suburbs. We raised sheep.
I’m dyslexic.
I’m still a full-time professor.
